Which wood is best for carving?

Basswood (linden) is the most popular carving wood: it is soft, evenly grown and does not splinter. Our BeaverCraft blanks are made from selected basswood.

From what age can children carve?

With the BeaverCraft C1Kid children’s knife, children from about 8 years can carve under supervision. The knife features a safety cap and child-friendly handle.

How do I sharpen my carving knives?

Use the supplied leather strop with polishing compound (stropping). Draw the blade flat across the strop – a few passes are enough to restore sharpness.

What is the difference between a carving knife and a hook knife?

A carving knife has a straight blade for surfaces and contours. A hook knife has a curved blade used specifically for hollowing out bowls (e.g. for spoons and kuksa).
