The objective diameter determines light gathering. With an 8x22 binocular, the exit pupil is 2.75 mm; with 10x22 only 2.2 mm. This is sufficient by day but limited at dusk. For more light gathering in pocket format, the 25 mm binocular is the next step; for absolute minimum weight, the 21 mm binocular.
