Aquatabs is the world’s leading brand for water purification tablets. Developed by Medentech in Wexford, Ireland, Aquatabs has been the trusted solution for safe drinking water since 1984 – whether on a multi-day trekking expedition, in a disaster zone or in the daily households of millions in developing countries. The tablets, based on sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), are approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for continuous use and deployed in over 120 countries. At Swiss-Sale.ch, you will find Aquatabs water purification tablets for outdoor activities, travel and emergency preparedness.
Aquatabs use the active ingredient sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), a stabilised form of chlorine. Unlike conventional chlorine bleach, NaDCC releases chlorine in a controlled and uniform manner, ensuring reliable disinfection at lower dosages. Depending on the variant, a single tablet treats between 0.75 and 2,500 litres of water. After a 30-minute contact time, bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts are inactivated – producing drinking water that meets WHO guidelines. The tablets are taste-neutral and leave no unpleasant chlorine odour when dosed correctly.
What began as a solution for crisis zones has long since proven itself in the outdoor world. Aquatabs tablets are the lightest and most compact method of making water drinkable on the move. A single tablet weighs less than one gram and requires neither electricity nor mechanical parts. Whether hiking in the Alps, travelling abroad or as an emergency reserve in your rucksack – Aquatabs turn questionable water into safe drinking water. UNICEF, the Red Cross and numerous armed forces worldwide trust Aquatabs as the standard water purification method in their field kits.
Aquatabs received World Health Organisation (WHO) approval in 2003 as a household water treatment method for continuous use. In 2022, Aquatabs treated over 40 billion litres of water worldwide. A study published in the renowned journal The Lancet (2019) confirmed the real-world effectiveness of Aquatabs. In 2017, Medentech was recognised by Fortune Magazine as one of the “Companies That Are Changing the World”.
The Aquatabs range includes various formats for different requirements. The classic single tablets are ideal for outdoor activities, travel and emergency stockpiling. Aquatabs Granules are designed for larger water volumes and are used in humanitarian operations. For permanent installations, the Flo and InLine systems provide automated solutions that continuously disinfect water tanks and pipework – ideal for schools, healthcare facilities and agricultural operations.
Behind Aquatabs stands Medentech, a company founded in Wexford, Ireland, in 1984. What began with a sterilising baby bottle tablet called Sterinova evolved into the global benchmark in drinking water purification. In 1997, Medentech moved to a state-of-the-art production facility in Wexford; in 2018, the company joined the Kersia Group – a European specialist in hygiene and biosecurity. Today, Medentech employs an international team of chemists, engineers and public health experts.
