Fenix – one of three premium flashlight manufacturers since 2001
If you ask in any outdoor forum or specialist publication for a high-end LED flashlight, Fenix sits in the top three alongside Olight and Nitecore. The reason is simple : Fenix was among the first manufacturers worldwide to commit fully to the ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard. What that means for you : the lumen ratings, beam distances and runtimes you see are independently verified – not marketing numbers. A Fenix PD36R Pro rated at 2'800 ANSI lumens delivers exactly that, even after 30 seconds of continuous operation. Many no-name lights collapse to half their peak output within 10 seconds.
The second reason : Fenix has the tool image. Bodies are CNC-machined from aircraft-grade T6 aluminium, hard-anodised (Type III) and IP68 certified. That means : 30 minutes at 2 m water depth doesn’t harm a Fenix, a 1–2 m drop doesn’t harm it, and dust stays out. This robustness is a specification, not a promise – and it’s why police, military, mountain rescue and fire services in over 100 countries rely on Fenix.
The third reason : the model-family logic. Fenix is one of the few manufacturers with a consistent letter-coding system that tells you instantly which application a model is built for. A Fenix PD is always a tactical all-rounder, a Fenix HM is always a headlamp, a Fenix HT is always built for hunting. You don’t need to wade through 200 models – you pick the series, then the model.
Fenix model families at a glance
The letters at the start of each model designation tell you the intended application. Here are the ten key series :
E series – Everyday Carry (EDC)
Compact lights for keychain, pocket or hand luggage. Example models : E01 V2.0 (keychain, 100 lumens), E18R V2.0 (mini EDC, 1'200 lumens, 16340 battery), E35R V3.0 (pocket powerhouse, 3'100 lumens). Profile : small, light, simple to operate, long battery life.
PD series – Professional / Daily
The bestselling Fenix series. Tactical all-rounders with high output and medium size. Example models : PD25R, PD32R, PD36R Pro (2'800 lumens), PD35 V3.0. Profile : hand- and belt-pouch sized, all PDs are tactically operable (tail switch + side switch), most are USB-C rechargeable. If you buy a single Fenix, it’s typically a PD.
TK series – Tactical (Pro)
Bigger, stronger sister of the PD. For police, security forces, professional outdoor work. Example models : TK16 V2.0, TK20R V2.0, TK21R, TK22 TAC, TK75. Profile : up to 6'000 lumens, beam distances over 1'000 m, crenellated bezel, often with strobe mode. If you need distance and defensive capability, choose TK over PD.
HM series – Headlamp
Headlamps with standard front-mounted LED module. Example models : HM65R-T (1'500 lumens, magnesium body), HM71R (2'700 lumens, the highest headlamp output in our range). Profile : USB-C, detachable lamp module (usable as a handheld light), red-light mode to preserve night vision. Dual-beam versions (spot + flood) for trail running, mountain rescue and bushcraft.
HT series – Hunting
Hunting flashlights with extra-long beam distance and green or red filter accessories. Example models : HT18R V2.0, HT30R, HT32, HT72R. Profile : beam distances up to 1'500 m, narrow beam for wildlife observation, side switch for quiet operation. Mountable on the rifle with the AER-03 remote switch.
LR series – Long Range / Searchlight
Searchlight class. Example models : LR35R (10'000 lumens, 700 m beam), LR80R (18'000 lumens, 1'130 m). Profile : large, heavy, but daylight-bright. For mountain rescue, search operations, marine equipment.
LD series – Light Duty
Outdoor all-rounders running on AA or 14500 batteries. Example models : LD12R, LD30R, LD45R. Profile : lighter, also runnable on standard AA batteries – important if you’re in remote areas without USB charging.
BC series – Bicycle
Bike lights for front and rear. Example models : BC26R (1'800-lumen front light), BC05R V2.0 (rear light with brake-detection sensor). Profile : handlebar mounts, IPX6 waterproofing, optional bar-mounted remote.
CL series – Camping Lantern
Camping lanterns with 360-degree light dispersion. Example models : CL26R (in olive and red). Profile : magnetic base for hanging, USB-C charging, can serve as a smartphone power bank.
C series – Compact
Compact lights, slightly larger than the E series. Example model : C7 (3'000 lumens). Profile : pocket-sized but with EDC-untypical high output.
Rule of thumb: Need an all-round flashlight? PD series. Tactical professional? TK series. Headlamp? HM series. Hunting? HT series. Outdoor with AA backup? LD series. Bike? BC series. Camping? CL series. Keychain? E series.

What sets Fenix apart from no-name lights
ANSI-verified lumens, not marketing lumens
A Fenix rated at "2'800 lumens" delivers 2'800 ANSI lumens – measured 30 seconds after switch-on, in stable thermal state, with the supplied battery. With Aliexpress lights, the "5'000 lumens" claim is often the peak value, sustained for only 1–2 seconds. After 10 seconds the output drops by 50–70 %.
Aircraft-grade T6 aluminium, not die-cast
Fenix bodies are CNC-turned from solid T6 aluminium. Type III hard-anodised – that means the surface is scratch-resistant, salt-water tolerant and heat-resistant. Die-cast bodies (used by many cheap lights) are brittle and crack on impact.
Genuine IP68 certification
IP68 means : 30 minutes at 2 m water depth without water ingress. Fenix tests every model in a pressure chamber before launch. Many "waterproof" no-name lights survive 30 seconds of rain, no more.
ARB batteries with protection circuits
Fenix ARB batteries (e.g. ARB-L21-5000, ARB-L18-3500) are 18650 or 21700 lithium-ion cells with integrated protection against deep discharge, overcharge and short circuit. That extends battery life and protects against thermal runaway. Cheap batteries often skip this protection.
5-year manufacturer warranty
FenixLight provides 5 years of warranty against material and manufacturing defects on most models. We handle warranty cases directly through our Swiss warehouse – you don’t need to ship anything to China.

Batteries and accessories – the ARB and ARE system
Fenix runs its own battery ecosystem with integrated protection circuits. Key components :
-
ARB series : lithium-ion batteries in standard sizes 18650, 21700 and 16340. Examples : ARB-L21-5000 (21700 standard), ARB-L18-3500 (18650), ARB-L16-700UP (16340 with USB-C direct-charge port).
-
ARE series : external chargers for ARB batteries when you want to charge multiple cells in parallel. Models : ARE-A2 (2-bay), ARE-A4 (4-bay), ARE-D1 (USB single-bay).
-
AER series : remote pressure switches for weapon mounts (e.g. AER-03 V2.0 for HT lights).
-
ALG/ALB series : weapon mounts (ALG-00, ALG-01) and carabiner clips (ALB-20).
-
AOT series : signal cones and signal wands (AOT-03 in red, AOT-S signal wand) that slot onto the bezel – useful for traffic control or emergency signalling.
-
NW series : emergency whistles (NW20 with 120 dB).
Each light typically ships with a matching ARB battery in the box. If you want a second backup cell for multi-day trips, stick with the original ARB – third-party batteries often don’t fit mechanically (Fenix runs tight tolerances).
