Gerber’s knife range covers fixed blades and folding knives for every use. The Strongarm series has been the bestseller in the outdoor and survival world for years: full-tang construction, GFN handle with rubberised surface, 420HC blade and MOLLE-compatible sheath system. With the StrongArm MagnaCut variant, Gerber has now upgraded the classic to premium steel. The Gerber Fastball MagnaCut folding knife brings CPM MagnaCut to the folder format – outstanding edge retention and corrosion resistance, combined with a precise frame-lock mechanism. The LMF II Infantry has been standard equipment for emergency responders and pilots for decades. Gerber has played a major role in shaping the multitool. The Center-Drive is the first multitool with a centre-aligned plier and a real full-size screwdriver – a breakthrough in ergonomics. The Suspension and Suspension NXT series offers robust all-rounders with spring lock for outdoor and workshop use. The Dime is one of the most compact multitools on the market and fits any keychain. For cutting and impact tools, Gerber offers a well-thought-out range: the Pack Hatchet as a compact travel axe (0.5 kg), the Bushcraft Axe Coyote with virtually indestructible FibreComp handle, the Freescape line in sizes 9/14/17 and the Downrange Tomahawk as a full-tang throwing axe with integrated breaching function. The name is often confused with Swiss brands like Gerber cheese (Emmi subsidiary) or Gerber Reisen – there is no connection. In the context of outdoor and survival tools, «Gerber» always means Gerber Gear.

With the introduction of CPM MagnaCut in the Fastball and StrongArm lines, Gerber has also entered the absolute steel top tier. The Center-Drive is the first multitool with a centre-aligned full-size screwdriver that feels and operates like a real screwdriver. It also features a one-hand-opening blade, centred pliers and high-quality stainless-steel tools. For professionals who need a fully fledged screwdriver, there’s hardly an alternative.
For getting started with Gerber we recommend the Gerber Strongarm as a fixed blade (robust, full-tang, MOLLE sheath, balanced price-performance ratio). For folding-knife fans the Paraframe is an affordable classic, for more demanding users the Fastball MagnaCut. These three cover the most important use cases.
Swiss weapons law (Art. 4 WG) governs which knives may be carried freely. Fixed-blade outdoor knives, bushcraft knives, classic hunting knives and one-hand folding knives – covering the bulk of the Gerber range including Strongarm, Fastball, LMF II, Paraframe and Principle – are generally freely available and may be carried in Switzerland without special permission. Prohibited weapons include butterfly knives, gravity knives, switchblades with blades over 5 cm and throwing knives. For the specific case and any cantonal regulations, the Federal Office of Police website (fedpol.admin.ch) is authoritative.
Three rules: First, after each use wipe the blade dry and apply a thin film of blade-care oil – especially important for carbon and MagnaCut steels. Second, occasionally lubricate multitool joints with a few drops of oil. Third, sharpen the blade regularly – with MagnaCut a few strokes on a fine stone are enough for premium sharpness. With proper care a Gerber tool will last a lifetime.
