Gerber Gear (officially Gerber Legendary Blades, Inc.) is one of the world’s best-known knife and tool brands. Since its founding in 1939 in Portland, Oregon, the company has developed and manufactured knives, multitools, axes and saws for outdoor, hunting, tactical use and everyday carry. Gerber is an official supplier to the US military and equips armed forces worldwide with reliable tools. At Swiss-Sale.ch you’ll find a curated selection of Gerber products – from fixed blades through compact pocket knives to versatile multitools.
Gerber covers the entire spectrum of cutting and tool work for outdoor and professional use. Main product areas from our range:
Gerber’s knife range covers fixed blades and folding knives for every use. The Strongarm series has been the bestseller in the outdoor and survival world for years: full-tang construction, GFN handle with rubberised surface, 420HC blade and MOLLE-compatible sheath system. With the StrongArm MagnaCut variant, Gerber has now upgraded the classic to premium steel. The Gerber Fastball MagnaCut folding knife brings CPM MagnaCut to the folder format – outstanding edge retention and corrosion resistance, combined with a precise frame-lock mechanism. The LMF II Infantry has been standard equipment for emergency responders and pilots for decades. The compact folders of the Paraframe, Gator and LST series excel as light EDC companions, the Principle Bushcraft knife as a Scandi-ground bushcraft tool. A broader selection is available in our Outdoor & Survival Knives by Gerber category.
Gerber has played a major role in shaping the multitool. The Center-Drive is the first multitool with a centre-aligned plier and a real full-size screwdriver – a breakthrough in ergonomics. The Suspension and Suspension NXT series offers robust all-rounders with spring lock for outdoor and workshop use. The Dime is one of the most compact multitools on the market and fits any keychain. The family is rounded out by the Truss (full equipment in classic format), the Crucial (mini multitool with carabiner), the Armbar line including the slim Armbar Slim Drive (folding knife with built-in tools) and the Splice (ultraflat for the trouser pocket). All Gerber multitools come with the Lifetime Warranty. The full multitool range is in our Multitools by Gerber category.
For cutting and impact tools, Gerber offers a well-thought-out range: the Pack Hatchet as a compact travel axe (0.5 kg), the Bushcraft Axe Coyote with virtually indestructible FibreComp handle, the Freescape line in sizes 9/14/17 and the Downrange Tomahawk as a full-tang throwing axe with integrated breaching function. Completing the programme are the Freescape folding saws for clean wood cutting at camp. The complete Gerber axe and hatchet range is in Axes & Hatchets by Gerber, the saws under Saws by Gerber.
For bushcraft, jungle and heavy garden work we stock the Gator Bolo Machete with a swinging Bolo blade for maximum impact momentum and the Gator Bush Machete with classic straight blade. Both with Gerber’s signature Gator-Grip rubberised polymer. Direct selection: Machetes by Gerber.
Complementing the main range we stock Gerber spades and compact shovels – military-inspired, robust, lightweight (see Shovels by Gerber). Plus the Gerber fire starter (magnesium rod with integrated emergency-whistle hammer) and the EAB Lite utility knife as a minimalist EDC cutter with replaceable blade.
With the ComplEAT line, Gerber has developed a self-contained outdoor kitchen concept: the ComplEAT cutlery set combines fork, spoon, spatula and tongs in a lightweight, magnetically connected system – no rattling mechanism, easy to clean, fully dishwasher safe. The ComplEAT cooking system completes the setup with modular pots and pans. For campers who want to optimise weight and space, this is a clever alternative to standard camping cookware.
What began in 1939 as a small knife forge run by Joseph Gerber in Portland is today one of the world’s most respected tool brands. Gerber has supplied the US military since the 1960s and created an iconic combat knife with the Mark II. Today the brand combines decades of manufacturing experience with modern materials such as CPM MagnaCut and glass-fibre-reinforced nylon. Core production still takes place in Portland, Oregon – every tool passes strict quality control before leaving the factory.
CPM MagnaCut was developed in 2021 by steel metallurgist Larrin Thomas and is today regarded as one of the best universal knife steels in the world. It combines four properties previously thought incompatible:
Gerber introduced MagnaCut first in the Fastball line and has since expanded the programme with the StrongArm MagnaCut variant – a clear statement of the brand’s commitment to the next material generation. If you’re looking for a knife for decades of high-quality use, the MagnaCut models are an excellent choice.

«Gerber Gear», officially Gerber Legendary Blades, Inc., is a US manufacturer of knives, multitools, axes and outdoor tools, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The name is often confused with Swiss brands like Gerber cheese (Emmi subsidiary) or Gerber Reisen – there is no connection. In the context of outdoor and survival tools, «Gerber» always means Gerber Gear.
Gerber Gear was founded in 1939 by Joseph Gerber in Portland, Oregon. The company started with hand-crafted knives and developed over the decades into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of knives, multitools and camp tools. Since 1987 Gerber has been part of the Finnish Fiskars Group, but the brand DNA and the headquarters in Portland remain unchanged.
Gerber covers the entire spectrum of cutting and tool work for outdoor and professional use: fixed-blade knives (Strongarm, LMF II), folding knives (Fastball MagnaCut, Paraframe, Gator), multitools (Center-Drive, Suspension, Dime, Armbar), axes and tomahawks (Pack Hatchet, Downrange Tomahawk), machetes (Gator Bolo/Bush), saws (Freescape), shovels and spades, and the ComplEAT camp kitchen concept. The range is rounded out with survival tools such as the fire starter.
Gerber’s core production still takes place in Portland, Oregon. Numerous series such as the Strongarm, the LMF II, the Fastball MagnaCut and the Center-Drive multitool are made in the USA. Individual product lines are produced in partner facilities – quality control always remains with Gerber.
Yes. Gerber has been an official US military supplier since the 1960s. Well-known examples include the Mark II Combat Knife introduced during the Vietnam War, the LMF II Infantry as standard knife for pilots and emergency responders, and numerous multitools in spec-ops use. European and British armed forces also rely on Gerber tools.
Gerber knives belong to the established upper midrange to premium class. Their strengths: robust construction, lifetime warranty and very good price-performance ratio. With the introduction of CPM MagnaCut in the Fastball and StrongArm lines, Gerber has also entered the absolute steel top tier. For outdoor, survival, camping and EDC, the models are excellently suited.
CPM MagnaCut was developed in 2021 by steel metallurgist Larrin Thomas and is today considered one of the best universal knife steels in the world. It combines high edge retention (M390 level), excellent corrosion resistance, high toughness and good ease of sharpening – four properties previously thought incompatible. Gerber uses MagnaCut in the Fastball and StrongArm MagnaCut lines.
Gerber’s Lifetime Warranty covers material and workmanship defects for the entire lifetime of the product. Normal wear and tear, improper use and modifications are excluded. For valid warranty claims, Gerber repairs or replaces the tool. We at Swiss-Sale.ch are happy to assist with warranty handling for products purchased in Switzerland.
The Center-Drive is the first multitool with a centre-aligned full-size screwdriver that feels and operates like a real screwdriver. It also features a one-hand-opening blade, centred pliers and high-quality stainless-steel tools. For professionals who need a fully fledged screwdriver, there’s hardly an alternative.
For getting started with Gerber we recommend the Gerber Strongarm as a fixed blade (robust, full-tang, MOLLE sheath, balanced price-performance ratio). For folding-knife fans the Paraframe is an affordable classic, for more demanding users the Fastball MagnaCut. These three cover the most important use cases.
Swiss weapons law (Art. 4 WG) governs which knives may be carried freely. Fixed-blade outdoor knives, bushcraft knives, classic hunting knives and one-hand folding knives – covering the bulk of the Gerber range including Strongarm, Fastball, LMF II, Paraframe and Principle – are generally freely available and may be carried in Switzerland without special permission. Prohibited weapons include butterfly knives, gravity knives, switchblades with blades over 5 cm and throwing knives. For the specific case and any cantonal regulations, the Federal Office of Police website (fedpol.admin.ch) is authoritative.
Three rules: First, after each use wipe the blade dry and apply a thin film of blade-care oil – especially important for carbon and MagnaCut steels. Second, occasionally lubricate multitool joints with a few drops of oil. Third, sharpen the blade regularly – with MagnaCut a few strokes on a fine stone are enough for premium sharpness. With proper care a Gerber tool will last a lifetime.
