The long beard design of the AX6 is not purely aesthetic – it is a well-thought-out geometric solution. The extended beard shifts the center of gravity forward, allowing for a more natural swing with less effort. The convex grind with a slightly curved cutting edge sinks effortlessly into the wood and produces deep, clean cuts. The 30° cutting angle strikes the ideal balance between sharpness and robustness – sharp enough for carving, strong enough for heavy hook work.

The handle of the AX6 is made of ash wood – one of the toughest and most vibration-absorbing woods used in tool making. Ash is traditionally the preferred material for axe handles, as it dampens shocks and vibrations while providing sufficient rigidity for precise guidance. Impregnation with linseed oil and wax protects the wood from moisture, prevents drying out, and significantly extends its service life. The lanyard hole at the end of the handle allows a safety sling to be attached.

Is 1066 carbon steel rust-free?
No, 1066 is not stainless steel, but it is rust-resistant with proper care. A thin film of oil after each use reliably prevents rust. The patina that forms over time is desirable and provides additional protection.
Can I also use the AX6 for splitting wood?
Yes, but with limitations. It is well suited for small to medium-sized logs up to approx. 15 cm in diameter. For large logs, a heavier splitting axe is recommended.
How sharp is the hatchet straight out of the packaging?
The AX6 comes razor sharp. You can get started right away. BeaverCraft sharpens every tool by hand before shipping.
Is the AX6 also suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Its compact size and balanced design make it beginner-friendly. Less mass means less risk in the event of a misplaced blow. Nevertheless, always treat it with the respect it deserves.

Treat the cowhide leather sheath occasionally with leather grease or Ballistol. If it gets wet, allow it to dry first, then re-grease. Avoid storing in direct sunlight.
Where does the hatchet come from?
The BeaverCraft AX6 is hand-forged in Ukraine. Each piece bears the signature of Ukrainian blacksmithing and is therefore unique.
Is the blade replaceable?
No, the AX6 is not a modular system. With proper care, however, the blade will last a lifetime and can be resharpened as often as needed.

For rough meat cutting and chopping, yes. Bones should only be processed with caution – the blade is primarily optimised for wood. For splitting bones, a specialised cleaver or heavier hatchet is recommended.
