While traditional kuksas are carved from birch, BeaverCraft chose premium walnut wood for the DIY07. Walnut is a hard, fine-grained hardwood with a striking dark grain pattern – tougher than birch, naturally moisture-resistant and developing a unique patina over time. The pre-shaped blank already provides the cup form, so you can focus on hollowing and refining. The SK1 hook knife is specifically designed for concave cuts: its curved blade glides through the walnut wood, shaping the inside of the bowl evenly.
