The C-series is the core carving knife line, with fixed blade and ash or oak wood handle. For spoons, kuksa cups and bowls – everything with a concave shape. Gouges are the classic professional tools of wood sculpting. BeaverCraft offers the G3-20 as a straight gouge and the G7L-20 as a bent gouge – both 20 mm cutting width, with ash handle. Lime wood is the classic carving wood – soft, low-grain, smooth to carve. BeaverCraft supplies cut lime wood blocks as the BB-series in 5-, 10-, 12-, 16- and 18-piece packs – evenly cut, dried and ready for carving projects right away. The BB2 spoon carving blank is already pre-shaped into a spoon form – ideal for spoon carving with hook knives.
Beyond the pure carving workshop, BeaverCraft complements its range with bushcraft knives and axes. BeaverCraft offers a 2-year manufacturer warranty against material and manufacturing defects. Carbon steel blades should be wiped dry after every use and occasionally rubbed with a drop of carving tool oil or Ballistol to prevent rust. Dull blades are restored to razor sharpness within seconds using the BeaverCraft leather strop with P01 polishing paste – that’s the advantage of the Scandi grind without secondary bevel. For heavier wear, a Japanese water stone 1000/6000 is recommended.

This is often oversimplified, so here’s the precise answer: the carving and hook knives (C-series, SK-series) are not classically hand-forged, but precision-manufactured – laser-cut from European 1066 high-carbon steel, press-formed for the gouges, then heat-treated to 58–62 HRC and manually assembled and sharpened. That is modern, controlled production technology – not forging romance. Actually hand-forged, by contrast, are the bushcraft axes of the AX-series, that is the AX1 hand axe and AX2 hand adze – they are made with traditional Ukrainian forging technique.
BeaverCraft uses two European high-carbon steels. 1066 with approx. 0.66 % carbon for the C-series carving knives and the BSH-series bushcraft knives. 65G as a spring steel with approx. 0.65 % carbon for the G-series gouges and the SK-series hook blades, because it is easy to form. Both are hardened to 58–62 HRC – in the optimal range for carving tools.
In our experience the price-performance ratio is absolutely competitive with European premium brands like Pfeil or Flexcut, at a significantly lower price. The blades are made of solid European steel, the Scandi grind is cleanly executed, and the wood processing is solid. For professional sculptors who carve hundreds of hours per year, the premium brands Pfeil and Flexcut are still slightly ahead in very intensive use. For hobby carvers and ambitious wood artists, BeaverCraft is the most-recommended brand in the international mid-range.

Three recommendations depending on your entry path: if you want to just try it out first, a single carving knife like the C8 or C15 plus a few lime wood blocks from the BB-series – total under CHF 30. If you want to complete a specific project, a DIY wood carving set with tools and instructions – the Comfort Bird is the classic for the first success. If you want to stick with it longer, the S08 carving knife set or the S13x Deluxe set – covers 80 % of later requirements.
Carbon steel rusts quickly – so important: wipe dry after every use, occasionally rub with a drop of carving tool oil or Ballistol, store in a dry environment. For sharpening, the BeaverCraft leather strop with P01 polishing paste is enough for everyday use – a few strokes on the leather side restore razor sharpness. Only for deeper nicks does the water stone come into play, ideally Japanese 1000/6000. Because of the Scandi grind, resharpening is simple: just place flat on the entire bevel, don’t build a secondary bevel.

Both are popular in the carving knife area but positioned differently. Morakniv is the Swedish all-purpose brand with a focus on outdoor knives, bushcraft and Sloyd carving – their carving knives are very good, but the range breadth for specialised carving tools is smaller. Yes. BeaverCraft carving knives, gouges, hook knives and also the fixed-blade BSH-series bushcraft knives are freely available and may be carried without special restrictions under Article 4 of the Swiss Weapons Act. You don’t need a justified reason. Prohibited, however, are butterfly/balisong knives, gravity knives, switchblades with blades over 5 cm and throwing knives – but those are all special types and don’t appear in the BeaverCraft range.
