A 33 mm binocular is a rare premium specialist class, almost exclusively produced by KOWA. Genesis PROMINAR models offer XD fluorite glass in the compact class – top optics for demanding nature observers.
The objective diameter determines light gathering. With an 8x33 binocular, the exit pupil is 4.13 mm; with 10x33 still 3.3 mm. This places 33 mm between 32 mm and 34 mm – combined with KOWA XD fluorite optics for minimal colour fringing.
On a 33 mm binocular, KOWA Genesis PROMINAR dominates with two configurations:
33 mm is an almost exclusive KOWA class with high optical quality. XD fluorite glass, magnesium housing and phase coating are mandatory here. Look for long eye relief and short close focus distance. General buying criteria on the main category Binoculars & Field Glasses.
Essentially KOWA with the Genesis PROMINAR series. A deliberate premium specialist size only available in top models.
Optically almost identical. 33 mm is KOWA-specific with XD fluorite glass, 32 mm is available from many manufacturers. For premium optics clearly 33 mm; for more model selection 32 mm.
On KOWA classically 8x33 or 10x33 – depending on preference for field of view vs. reach.
For intensive use yes. The XD fluorite optics deliver image quality that standard models cannot reach – a tool for generations.
