A 34 mm binocular is a rare specialist size between 32 mm and 36 mm. Offers slightly more light gathering than the classic 32 mm at almost the same weight – a niche for premium models.
The objective diameter determines light gathering. With an 8x34 binocular, the exit pupil is 4.25 mm; with 10x34 still 3.4 mm. Marginally brighter than a 32 mm binocular, without requiring the step to a 36 mm or 42 mm binocular.
On a 34 mm binocular, two magnifications are common:
34 mm is a rare specialist size, almost exclusively found in premium series. Expect ED glass, phase coating and magnesium housing as standard. General buying criteria on the main category Binoculars & Field Glasses.
Marginal. The 2 mm objective difference is small – build quality and the specific model are decisive. For more model selection usually 32 mm is the better choice.
Classically 8x34 or 10x34 – depending on preference for field of view vs. reach.
Rare. Most manufacturers produce 32 mm or 36 mm; 34 mm is a premium specialist size of individual series.
