Buy the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut in Burnt Orange – the flat EDC multi-tool with scissors

The Gerber Armbar Slim Cut is the slim version of the popular Armbar multi-tool, optimised for EDC carriers wanting a real tool trio in pocket format. Three functions in a 62 g body: a 6.6 cm sheep’s foot blade in 5Cr15MoV stainless steel with thumb-hole opening and liner-lock; spring-loaded scissors with 25 mm blades for fabric, paper, packaging or food; and an integrated cap lifter. The vivid Burnt Orange is design statement and safety feature in one – the multi-tool is instantly visible in any backpack pocket, on any camping table or in the grass, and is much harder to lose than a black multi-tool. At just 9.65 cm closed it fits any pocket, any keyring (built-in 9 mm split ring) and any camping or festival backpack – without feeling it when you grip. Blade + scissors + capper

Three tools in one – the right curation for EDC

Gerber deliberately reduced the Armbar Slim Cut to three functions – each one well-executed, rather than 15 mediocre tools. The sheep’s foot blade has a slightly upturned tip and straight cutting edge – ideal for controlled cuts in carving, opening boxes or food prep at the camp table. The spring-loaded scissors with 25 mm blades are surprisingly capable – much better than the pseudo-scissors of many multi-tools. You can cut paracord, branches, fabric plasters, packaging film and even fine hair. The cap lifter is discreetly integrated in the handle, letting you open beer or sparkling water bottles on the go without searching.

Sheep’s foot blade – controlled cuts without surprise point

The 6.6 cm sheep’s foot blade is a traditional outdoor and work-blade shape: straight cutting edge without a prominent point, with a near-right-angle tip enabling safe carving, box cutting and scraping. You can hold the blade in one hand and use your thumb to dose cutting pressure precisely – without the tip slipping uncontrolled. The 5Cr15MoV stainless steel is a practical EDC steel: good corrosion resistance, easy to sharpen, sufficient edge retention for typical EDC tasks. For extremely cut-intensive applications (survival, bushcraft) better steels exist – for daily cardboard, fabric and food cuts 5Cr15MoV is adequate and easy to resharpen at home.

Spring-loaded scissors – not just a pseudo-tool

Most multi-tools have mini-scissors that wear out quickly and are barely usable. The Armbar Slim Cut scissors are differently engineered: spring-loaded (opens itself after each cut, you just squeeze) and with 25 mm blades that deploy in two stages. This makes them actually usable for: cutting paracord (trail tours), trimming fabric plasters (first aid), snipping fine twigs (carving), opening packaging film (deliveries), trimming hair or nose hair (travel), cutting thread sewing at the camp table. The scissors make the tool significantly more versatile than the similar Armbar Slim Drive (with hex bit instead of scissors).

Anodised aluminium handle – light, rugged, corrosion-resistant

The Armbar Slim Cut handle is anodised aluminium – very light (main reason for the low 62 g weight) and corrosion-resistant under hand sweat or camping moisture. The anodised coating is durable and retains colour even with years of pocket carry alongside keys and coins. The textured aluminium pattern gives secure grip – even with damp hands or while cutting with pressure. Compared to G10 or carbon handle materials, aluminium is more impact-resistant, easier to clean and more thermally conductive (cools faster in the pocket).

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions – Gerber Armbar Slim Cut

Find answers about the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut multi-tool – from blade steel through scissors, liner lock, Swiss carry law and care to Swiss shipping.

What steel does the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut blade use?
The sheep’s foot blade is 5Cr15MoV stainless steel. That’s a Chinese steel with about 0.5 % carbon and 15 % chromium – comparable to the German 1.4116 (X50CrMoV15). Properties: good corrosion resistance (even with sweat and humidity), easy to sharpen with simple stones or diamond sharpeners, sufficient edge retention for EDC tasks (cardboard, fabric, food). For premium edge retention better steels exist (S30V, CPM MagnaCut), but 5Cr15MoV is a good, practical compromise for a budget EDC tool.
What are the dimensions of the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut?
Closed the Armbar Slim Cut is just 9.65 cm long · 18.8 mm wide · about 18 mm thick. Open total length is 16.3 cm (blade 6.6 cm). Weight is only 62 g – significantly lighter than a Victorinox Huntsman or larger Gerber Suspension Multi-Plier. That makes the Armbar Slim Cut a true EDC format you can carry all day without feeling it.
What is the Armbar Slim Cut suited for?
Classic EDC tasks: opening cardboard and packaging, cutting paracord and string, trimming fabric plasters (first aid), food prep at the camp table (cheese, sausage, fruit), opening bottles (beer, sparkling water), fine carving at the campfire, snipping labels and thread during repairs. NOT suited for: prying (liner lock isn’t as stable as frame lock), bushcraft heavy work (blade too short, steel not hard enough), throwing (it bends).
How does the Slim Cut differ from the Slim Drive?
Both have the identical sheep’s foot blade and cap lifter. The difference is the third tool: the Slim Cut has spring-loaded scissors for fabric, paper, paracord and food – ideal for EDC, travel and first-aid applications. The Slim Drive has a 1/4-inch hex bit driver with bit storage in the handle – ideal for workshop, DIY, bike wrenching. Choose by application: scissors for cutting tasks, hex bit for screwing tasks.
How safe is the liner lock?
The liner lock is a proven blade locking mechanism – an open blade is held in place by a sprung metal liner in the handle. Advantage: one-hand operable, lightweight, compact construction. Disadvantage: less stable under lateral pressure (e.g. prying) than frame lock or axis lock. For normal cutting use, liner lock is absolutely reliable. For prying applications we recommend protecting the blade or using another tool.
How does the thumb-hole opening work?
The blade has a hole in the spine through which you grip with your thumb and open the blade in one fluid motion. Right-handed this works smoothly – left-handers can operate the tool too but need to rotate the hand to reach the thumb hole. Once the blade is open it can be used equally in either hand. With some practice you’ll open the Slim Cut in under a second.
What accessories suit the Armbar Slim Cut?
Practical add-ons: a small sharpening stone for regular blade care (e.g. DMT Diafold), a small leather sheath for belt carry if you don’t want to pocket-carry, a keyring carabiner for quick access on the backpack strap, light machine oil for the blade pivot. Original Gerber spare parts are available through the manufacturer’s service.
How do I care for the Armbar Slim Cut?
After food contact, rinse with water and dry – this prevents corrosion at the blade pivot and the liner lock mechanism. As needed, lubricate the blade pivot with a drop of light machine oil (e.g. Ballistol). Maintain the blade with a sharpening stone (1,000 grit) or diamond sharpener – 5Cr15MoV is easy to sharpen. The scissors can be lubricated with a drop of oil at the joint. The anodised aluminium body needs no maintenance, but isn’t resistant to aggressive chemicals.
What warranty does the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut have?
Gerber grants a Limited Lifetime Warranty: lifetime warranty on material and workmanship defects under normal use – wear parts (blade after years of use, scissors after intense use) are excluded. Additionally, 2-year Swiss statutory warranty applies. Swiss-Sale.ch handles warranty cases directly in Switzerland.
How fast does Swiss-Sale.ch ship the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut?
Orders placed before 17:00 are usually shipped the same business day. We ship via Swiss Post. Delivery within Switzerland takes 1–2 business days. From CHF 100 order value shipping is free.
Why buy the Armbar Slim Cut at Swiss-Sale.ch?
Swiss-Sale.ch is an official Swiss specialist for Gerber products. You benefit from fast shipping out of Switzerland (no customs, no waiting), personal expert advice and warranty handling directly in Switzerland.
May I carry the Gerber Armbar Slim Cut in Switzerland?
Yes. The Swiss Weapons Act (LArm) has no general blade-length restriction for folding knives with one-hand opening. Only specific knife types are forbidden (butterfly knives, automatic springsticks, knuckle knives). The Armbar Slim Cut with thumb-hole opening and liner lock doesn’t fall under these bans. Caution: in public spaces during demonstrations, sporting events or similar assemblies, carry may be banned – ask local police if in doubt. For travel abroad: other countries have strict restrictions (UK e.g. allows only 3-inch blades without lock), please check before travel.
