Buy the Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle 0.7L Moss Green – filtered in two stages

The Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle 0.7L in moss green is a rigid drinking bottle with an integrated water filter for day trips, hunting, wildlife watching and travel. The EZ-Clean Membrane with its 0.1 µm pore size retains bacteria, protozoa, sediment and microplastics; the activated carbon downstream reduces chlorine along with taste and odour compounds. The muted moss green blends into natural surroundings without standing out – and at 75 millimetres outer diameter the dimensionally stable bottle fits common bike bottle cages.

What the membrane retains – and what it does not

The figure that decides what the filter is good for

With water filters, pore size is not a marketing claim but the limit of the effect. 0.1 µm equals 0.0001 millimetres. Bacteria such as E. coli measure roughly 0.5 to 2 µm, protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium 4 to 15 µm – both are reliably retained by a 0.1 µm membrane, as are sediment and microplastic particles. Viruses, by contrast, are partly smaller than the pores at roughly 0.02 to 0.3 µm and pass through. That is why the BeFree filter is designed for streams, lakes and springs in Europe and North America, where waterborne viruses play no relevant role – in regions with that risk, chemical disinfection or UV treatment belongs alongside it.

🦠 Bacteria (0.5–2 µm) and protozoa (4–15 µm) are retained
🧫 Microplastic particles and sediment likewise
⚠️ Viruses are smaller and pass – separate disinfection needed

Moss green – the muted variant

Moss green is the AC Bottle colour that stands out least in the field. For hunting, wildlife watching and nature photography that is not an aesthetic detail but practically relevant: in a hide or a camouflage tent a brightly coloured bottle disturbs the field of view, and a patch of colour that moves is visible from far away. If instead you want a bottle that is easy to find again in a pack or in camp, the misty red variant serves you better.

When the water is turbid – pre-filtering saves service life

The bottle is designed for clear to slightly turbid water. Suspended solids clog the hollow fibres, and whatever settles there costs flow. With visibly turbid water a simple intermediate step therefore pays off: fill the water into a container, let it stand for a few minutes and skim off only the clear upper part. Alternatively, stretch a piece of cloth or a bandana over the bottle opening. Either takes two minutes and noticeably extends the membrane’s life.

Cleaning and drying – the two steps after a trip

To clean, hold the filter in clean water and shake it – the deposited particles come off the hollow fibres and the flow is back. Drying matters just as much: a hollow fibre filter sealed away damp encourages microbial growth inside. Take the filter out after use and let bottle and filter dry openly before stowing both. The bottle itself can be rinsed normally – just not with the filter in the dishwasher.

Which colour – and when another format fits better

Technically smoke, misty red, moss green and slate blue are identical; the choice is a question of use. Moss green is the muted variant for natural surroundings, misty red the most visible for anyone who often puts their bottle down somewhere. Either way: if you want the empty bottle to disappear into your pack, a BeFree AC soft flask that rolls up serves you better. And if you fill several bottles at once in camp, choose a BeFree Gravity. Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions – Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle 0.7L Moss Green

Answers around the Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle 0.7L Moss Green – from pore size and microplastics to turbid water and Swiss shipping.

Does the Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle also filter microplastics?
Yes. The EZ-Clean Membrane with its 0.1 µm pore size retains microplastic particles along with bacteria, protozoa and sediment. Dissolved substances such as salts or heavy metals, by contrast, are not removed.
What does a pore size of 0.1 µm mean in practice?
0.1 µm is 0.0001 millimetres. Bacteria typically measure 0.5 to 2 µm, protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium 4 to 15 µm – both are therefore considerably larger than the pores and are retained.
Why does the filter not retain viruses?
At roughly 0.02 to 0.3 µm, viruses are partly smaller than the membrane pores and pass through. In Europe and North America waterborne viruses play virtually no role in surface water; in regions with that risk, add chemical disinfection or UV treatment.
What does the «AC» in the name stand for?
AC stands for activated carbon. It forms the second filter stage and reduces chlorine along with taste and odour compounds. It has no bearing on microbiological safety – that is the membrane’s job.
Can I fill the bottle with turbid water?
It is intended for clear to slightly turbid water. With visibly turbid water it is better to let it settle in a container for a few minutes and skim only the clear upper part, or stretch a cloth over the opening. That noticeably extends the membrane’s service life.
How long do the membrane and the activated carbon last?
The EZ-Clean Membrane is rated for up to 1'000 litres, the activated carbon for around 200. Both figures depend on water quality – heavily loaded water shortens them.
How do I clean the filter?
Hold it in clean water and shake it vigorously – the deposited particles come off the hollow fibres and the flow is back. No backflush syringe or other tool is needed.
Does moss green differ technically from the other colours?
No. Smoke, misty red, moss green and slate blue are identical apart from the colour – same membrane, same carbon stage, same weight, same dimensions. Moss green is the most muted of the four variants.
Does the bottle fit a bike bottle cage?
Yes. The outer diameter is 75 millimetres, the common size for bike bottle cages. It therefore also fits most cup holders.
How fast does Swiss-Sale.ch ship the Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle 0.7L?
Orders placed before 17:00 usually ship the same working day. We send with Swiss Post, and delivery within Switzerland takes 1–2 working days. Orders from CHF 100 ship free of charge.
Why buy the Katadyn BeFree AC Bottle from Swiss-Sale.ch?
Swiss-Sale.ch is an official Swiss dealer for Katadyn. You get fast shipping from a Swiss warehouse (no customs, no waiting), personal advice on the right format, and warranty handling directly in Switzerland.
What should I watch out for in use?
Keep the raw and clean water sides separate: if the drinking cap touches unfiltered water or the outside of the bottle, the filtration is void. Take the filter out after your trip and let bottle and filter dry openly before stowing both.
