Kelly Kettle has stood for one brilliantly simple idea for over 130 years: boiling water with what nature provides. Founded in the 1890s on the shores of Lough Conn in County Mayo, Ireland, the family business – now in its fourth generation – produces volcano kettles that require no gas, electricity or chemical fuels. A few twigs, dry leaves or pine cones are all it takes – and the water boils in three to five minutes. At Swiss-Sale.ch you will find Kelly Kettle kettles, sets and accessories for outdoor use in Switzerland.

The double-wall chimney principle – brilliantly simple, incredibly efficient

At the heart of every Kelly Kettle lies the patented double-wall chimney construction. The water sits in the cavity between the outer and inner walls of the kettle, while the flame draws upward through the central chimney. This chimney effect creates a natural updraft that accelerates combustion and transfers the entire heat of the fire to the large contact area between flame and water. The result: maximum efficiency with minimal fuel consumption – even in wind and rain.

Tradition · since the 1890s
Four generations of Kelly – from Irish fisherman to a worldwide original

It all started with Patrick Kelly, a fisherman and small farmer on Lough Conn. During a harsh winter he tinkered in his workshop with a tin kettle that was later replaced by more durable copper. His son Jim became famous among the region’s anglers as the fastest water boiler. In the 1970s Padraic Kelly introduced modern manufacturing methods. Today the great-grandchildren Seamus and Patrick Kelly run the company – exporting the Irish original to over 40 countries.

Three sizes for every adventure

Kelly Kettle offers three kettle sizes in stainless steel (304) and aluminium. The Trekker (0.6 litres) is the most compact kettle for solo adventurers, backpackers and kayakers. The Scout (1.2 litres) suits small groups, families and scout camps. The Base Camp (1.6 litres) is the largest kettle, ideal for groups, car camping, fishing and emergency preparedness. All models work on the same proven double-wall chimney principle.

More than a kettle – a complete cooking system

Around the volcano kettle, Kelly Kettle has developed a modular accessory system. The Hobo Stove turns the fire base into a stand-alone cooker for pans and pots. Stainless-steel camping cup sets fit perfectly on top of the kettle. Cook sets in two sizes enable full meals on the trail. And the pot support extends the range of uses even further. Every accessory nests inside the kettle itself for space-saving packing – a thoughtful system for weight- and space-conscious outdoor enthusiasts.

Stainless steel or aluminium – the right choice

The stainless-steel version (grade 304 chromium-nickel steel, food-safe) excels through extreme durability and corrosion resistance. It is the first choice for anyone seeking a kettle for life. The aluminium variant (anodised, grade 1020) is considerably lighter and ideal for weight-conscious trekkers and backpackers. Both materials are robust, food-safe and built for tough outdoor use. At Swiss-Sale.ch we stock the stainless-steel models – the most durable option for Swiss outdoor adventures.

Frequently Asked Questions – Kelly Kettle

What is a Kelly Kettle and how does it work?
A Kelly Kettle is a volcano kettle with a double-wall chimney construction. The water sits in the cavity between the outer and inner walls. A small fire of twigs, leaves or pine cones is lit in the central chimney. The natural chimney effect accelerates combustion and transfers heat highly efficiently to the water – bringing it to a boil in just 3–5 minutes.
What sizes are available?
Kelly Kettle offers three sizes: the Trekker (0.6 litres) for 1–2 people, the Scout (1.2 litres) for small groups and families, and the Base Camp (1.6 litres) for larger groups and family camping. All three sizes are available in stainless steel and aluminium.
What fuel does the Kelly Kettle use?
The Kelly Kettle uses exclusively natural fuel: dry twigs, leaves, bark, grass, pine cones or similar organic material. No gas, methylated spirits or electricity is required. A small handful of fuel is enough to bring the kettle to a boil.
What material is the kettle made of?
Kelly Kettle offers two materials: stainless steel 304 (chromium-nickel steel, food-safe, extremely durable and corrosion-resistant) and anodised aluminium 1020 (lighter, ideal for weight-conscious trekkers). At Swiss-Sale.ch we stock the stainless-steel variants.
