A compact shovel is one of the most versatile outdoor tools. Whether digging a trench, preparing a fire pit, clearing access or building a snow shelter in winter – a good folding shovel handles tasks no other tool can.
Our range comprises four proven models: three folding shovels from Gerber for camping and military use, plus an aluminium snow shovel from BCB International for winter tours and avalanche emergencies.
The most compact option: the Gorge folds to a minimal pack size and is ideal for light digging at camp, cat holes and as an emergency tool.
Built to military standards: the E-Tool (Entrenching Tool) is the classic soldier’s spade. More robust than the Gorge, with folding mechanism and serrated edge. Proven by armed forces worldwide.
The most versatile folding shovel: the Dredge offers a larger blade for more demanding digging on expeditions.
The specialised winter solution: this lightweight aluminium shovel is designed as an avalanche shovel and is essential gear for ski touring and winter hiking.

Gerber folding shovels are designed for professional use and backed by a lifetime warranty. The BCB snow shovel meets avalanche rescue requirements.
For light camping we recommend the Gerber Gorge – compact, lightweight and sufficient for basic digging. For more demanding tasks, the Dredge or military E-Tool is the better choice.
E-Tool stands for Entrenching Tool. It is the standard folding spade used by armed forces worldwide – robust, compact and versatile.
Anyone venturing off-piste (ski touring, freeriding, winter hiking) should always carry an avalanche shovel. Together with the transceiver and probe, it is part of standard avalanche safety equipment.
All three Gerber models fold down and fit easily in a backpack or on a belt. The packed size is approx. 25–30 cm when folded.
The Gerber E-Tool has a serrated edge suitable for chopping roots and branches. For heavy chopping, however, we recommend a dedicated hatchet.
