The waterproofness of the poncho is ensured by a PU coating that does not require special care. However, the outer surface is treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent), which causes water to bead up and roll off. Once this is Deactivated, it may look like the fabric is soaked and flawed, but this is only cosmetic. The DWR can be renewed, for which we recommend products like Nikwax or Granger's. These products come with full instructions and are usually washed into or sprayed onto the garment. There is no hard and fast rule for how often you need to do this, just when you notice the water stops beading on the garment.
