Buy the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars – the 8x42 binoculars of the ADMIRAL Kranich ED series

The ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars is a high-quality 8x42 pair of binoculars from the ADMIRAL Kranich ED series. The Kranich ED series is ADMIRAL's premium line, made in Japan with an aluminium die-cast housing and rubber armour. It targets discerning observers demanding maximum image quality and build. With 8x magnification, a 42 mm objective and an exit pupil of 5.25 mm it delivers a bright, brilliant image – even at dusk. The field of view of 131 m at 1000 m (7.5°) provides a generous overview so you can find moving subjects like birds or wildlife faster.

The close focus of 1.5 m makes the binoculars usable for insects, blossoms and details in close range too. The eye relief of 17 mm is eyeglass-friendly; the adjustable eyecups allow comfortable observation with and without glasses. Nitrogen filling reliably prevents internal fogging and makes the binoculars waterproof and dustproof. Weight: 660 g, dimensions: 140 × 134 × 53 mm.

Japanese craftsmanship – why the Kranich ED series plays in its own league

The Kranich ED family is produced in Japan – one of the world's three centres for high-end binocular optics (alongside Germany and Austria). The aluminium die-cast housing is stiffer and more durable than polycarbonate constructions; the rubber armour dampens shocks and provides a non-slip grip. Fully multi-coated optics with ED lenses and BaK4 prisms deliver an image with very high sharpness, strong contrast and true-to-life colour rendition – without the surcharge of top-tier brands.

What is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars ideal for? – observation, hunting, sport

The ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars is the right choice for nature observation, birding, wildlife observation and wildlife photography preparation, hunting (stalking and stands), hiking and mountain sport as well as major sporting events. Classic uses: bird identification in reeds or forest (8x is optimal for moving targets at medium distance), wildlife observation at the forest edge at dusk, Alpine panorama observation on hikes, scout nature exploration, and concerts and sports events (open-air theatre, football, equestrian).

What makes 8x42 the right format?

The 8x42 combination is one of the most balanced binocular formats overall. 8x magnification is strong enough for detail identification at 50–500 m range but still steady enough for hand-held observation (from 12x a tripod becomes increasingly necessary). The 42 mm objective defines light-gathering: larger objectives collect more light but are bigger and heavier. The exit pupil of 5.25 mm (= objective diameter / magnification) is the decisive metric for dusk performance: at dusk the human pupil dilates to 5–7 mm; the larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image in low light.

Care & storage of the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars

Dry lens cleaning with the included microfibre cloth. On soiling first remove dust with a blower or soft lens brush, then wipe with lens cleaning fluid and microfibre cloth in circular motions from inside out. Never rub with paper towel or hard textiles – the multi-coating is scratch-sensitive. After use in rain or snow let the case dry open before storage. Fit the objective and eyepiece caps when not in use. On decreasing image sharpness first check the dioptre adjustment; it slips easily during carrying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions – ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars

Here you will find answers about the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars – from optical specs and use cases to care, accessories and Swiss shipping.

What magnification does the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars have?
8x magnification. That identifies targets well at 50–500 m range. At 8x the binoculars are still hand-holdable; from 12x a tripod is increasingly recommended.
How bright is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars at dusk?
The exit pupil of 5.25 mm determines dusk performance. At dusk the human pupil dilates to 5–7 mm; the larger the exit pupil of the binoculars, the brighter the image. For pure dusk hunting we recommend models with 5–7 mm exit pupil.
How large is the field of view of the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars?
131 m at 1000 m (7.5°). A generous field of view that helps you frame moving subjects (birds, wildlife) faster and track them.
Is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars eyeglass-friendly?
Yes, with 17 mm eye relief the model is suitable for eyeglass wearers (rule of thumb: from 15 mm clearly eyeglass-friendly). The adjustable twist-up eyecups allow switching between use with and without glasses.
From what distance can the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars focus?
Close focus: 1.5 m. So you can also observe insects, blossoms and details up close – not only wildlife or birds in the distance.
Is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars waterproof?
Yes. The binoculars are filled with nitrogen (N₂) which prevents internal fogging and makes them waterproof and dustproof outside. Ideal for rain, fog and humid environments. Not designed for sustained submersion.
Does the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars have ED glass?
Yes, the binoculars have ED lenses (extra-low dispersion). ED glass reduces chromatic aberration (colour fringing at contrast edges), leading to noticeably sharper and more colour-accurate rendering – especially on high-contrast scenes like a dark bird against a bright sky.
How heavy is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars?
660 g. At dimensions of 140 × 134 × 53 mm it is well suited for hand-held observation; for longer sessions we recommend a neck strap and possibly a binocular harness.
Where is the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars made?
Japan. ADMIRAL is a Swiss brand from TOBCO; production takes place in Japan (Kranich series) under Swiss quality control.
How fast does Swiss-Sale.ch ship the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars?
Orders placed by 5:00 pm are usually dispatched the same business day. We ship with Swiss Post. Delivery within Switzerland takes 1–2 business days. Orders from CHF 100 ship free of charge.
Why buy the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars at Swiss-Sale.ch?
Swiss-Sale.ch is an official Swiss dealer for ADMIRAL. You benefit from fast shipping within Switzerland, personal expert advice and warranty handling directly in Switzerland.
How do I care for the ADMIRAL Kranich 8x42 ED binoculars properly?
Clean lenses exclusively with the supplied microfibre cloth. Before wiping, remove dust with a blower or lens brush – otherwise you scratch. For heavier soiling use lens cleaning fluid. After use in rain let the binoculars dry openly. On decreasing sharpness first check the dioptre adjustment – it slips easily during carrying.
