Buy heat pads: instant warmth without power or batteries

Heat pads are the simplest answer to cold hands and feet: open the pack, take out the pad and within a few minutes it warms up. The heat pads from The HEAT Company contain iron powder, activated carbon, vermiculite, salt and water. When the mixture comes into contact with oxygen, the iron oxidises and releases even warmth – for 8 to 24 hours depending on the type.

At Swiss-Sale.ch you will find hand warmers for gloves and jacket pockets, toe and sole warmers for your shoes, self-adhesive body and back warmers and a warming belt. Unopened, the pads keep for several years – handy for your backpack, car and emergency supplies.

Which heat pad for which use?

Hand warmers – 12 or 24 hours of warm fingers

The Heat hand warmer comes as a pair and lasts around 12 hours. The hand warmer XL is larger and gives off warmth for up to 24 hours – the right choice for long days on the slopes, in the hide or at the stadium. Both need a semi-enclosed space such as a glove, jacket or trouser pocket and reach full warmth after about 30 minutes. See all models under hand warmers.

Toe and sole warmers – adhesive or as an insert

The toe warmer is extra thin and sticks to the outside underside of your sock – 8 hours of warm toes, even in ski boots. The sole warmer warms the entire sole of your foot: place it in the shoe with the fabric side up; available in four sizes. The adhesive sole warmer sticks to the underside of your sock and does not slip – ideal when you move a lot, for example skiing or snowshoeing. If you stand still for long periods, the insole is the better choice. Toe and sole warmers are designed for use inside shoes only. Overview: toe and sole warmers.

Body warmer, back warmer and warming belt

The body warmer sticks to your base layer and stays warm for 12 hours. For your back there is the back warmer XL in a box of 3, measuring 20 × 13 cm with 18 hours of warmth. The warming belt with four heat cells stays firmly in place thanks to its hook-and-loop fastener and warms for over 12 hours. All versions: body warmers.

Emergency pack with rescue blanket

The Heat emergency pack weighs under 150 g and combines an aluminium rescue blanket (220 × 160 cm, gold/silver) with a multi warmer that lasts 20 hours. In the cold, the silver side faces the body; as a sun shield it faces outwards. It fits in any backpack and in the car.

Goes well with

Some gloves from The HEAT Company have an extra pocket that holds the hand warmer XL. More cold-weather categories: heated insoles, heat patches and shipping warmers.

How to use heat pads correctly

A few simple rules help you get the full warming time and protect your skin:

  • Activate: open the pack just before use. Hand and multi warmers need a semi-enclosed space. If the pads do not get properly warm, put them in your jacket pocket for a few minutes – ideally two together so they warm each other.
  • Not directly on the skin: body warmers, back warmers and the warming belt belong on your base layer, for example your undershirt. Never press heat pads firmly against your skin, not even while sleeping – according to the manufacturer, this can cause minor burns.
  • In the shoe: toe and sole warmers are designed for the low-oxygen environment inside shoes and should only be used there.
  • Pause: sealed airtight, for example in a tight zip bag, the reaction stops; later the pad continues to warm. This does not extend the total warming time.
  • Children: only under supervision; the manufacturer advises against heat pads for toddlers and babies.
  • Disposal: used pads go in the household waste.

Who are hand warmers and heat pads for?

Heat pads help wherever you spend a long time outdoors in autumn and winter without moving much:

  • Hiking and winter hiking: hand warmers for breaks, the emergency pack in your backpack
  • Winter sports: toe warmers in ski boots, adhesive sole warmers for snowshoeing
  • Hides and wildlife watching: hand warmer XL and sole warmers for hours of sitting still
  • Outdoor work: body warmer under your jacket, sole warmers in your work boots
  • Emergency supplies: several years of shelf life unopened – for car, backpack and first-aid kit
Tip: For a long session in the hide or an evening in the stands: hand warmer XL in your jacket pockets, sole warmers in your shoes and a back warmer on your undershirt – that way your hands, feet and back are covered at the same time.

FAQ – Hand Warmers & Heat Pads

How do heat pads work?

Heat pads contain iron powder, activated carbon, vermiculite, salt and water. As soon as you open the pack, the iron reacts with the oxygen in the air and releases heat – without power, batteries or a flame.

How long do hand warmers stay warm?

The hand warmer lasts around 12 hours, the hand warmer XL up to 24 hours. Toe and sole warmers last 8 hours, the body warmer and warming belt 12 hours, the back warmer XL 18 hours and the multi warmer in the emergency pack 20 hours. How quickly and how long a pad warms depends on the oxygen in its surroundings.

Can heat pads be reused?

A heat pad cannot be recharged. You can pause it, though: sealed airtight, for example in a tight zip bag, the reaction stops and the pad continues to warm later. This does not extend the total warming time.

Are heat pads dangerous for the skin?

Not when used correctly. Stick body and back warmers to your base layer, never directly on the skin, and do not press heat pads firmly against your body, not even while sleeping. Otherwise, according to the manufacturer, minor burns are possible. Children should only use heat pads under supervision, toddlers and babies not at all.

What is the difference between a toe warmer and a sole warmer?

The toe warmer is a small, extra-thin pad that you stick to the underside of your sock; it mainly warms your toes. The sole warmer is shaped like an insole and warms the entire sole of your foot. It comes as an insert in four sizes and as an adhesive version in two sizes.

Why does my heat pad not get properly warm?

The heat is only produced with enough oxygen. Put hand and multi warmers in a semi-enclosed space such as your jacket pocket for a few minutes, ideally two pads together. Toe and sole warmers, on the other hand, are made for the low-oxygen environment inside shoes.

How long do unopened heat pads keep?

Unopened, the heat pads from The HEAT Company keep for several years. That makes them well suited to emergency supplies in the car, backpack or first-aid kit.

Can I take heat pads on a plane?

According to The HEAT Company, the heat pads can be carried on planes. Still, check with your airline before you travel.
