The Katadyn Gravidyn ceramic filter element is the two-stage replacement candle for Katadyn drip filters and filter housings. On the outside sits the same microporous ceramic with a 0.2 µm pore size and embedded silver that distinguishes the Ceradyn – it retains bacteria, protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and suspended solids. Inside the element there is additionally an activated carbon core that reduces chlorine, unpleasant taste compounds and organic chemicals. A single part therefore does what would otherwise require a double housing with two elements.

Two stages, one part – and why that saves space

Anyone filtering with pure ceramic who still wants chlorine and taste compounds gone normally needs a double housing: ceramic element plus a separate activated carbon element.
