The Katadyn Drip Filter Ceradyn is a gravity water filter with a 10-litre storage container and three Ceradyn ceramic elements, built for cabins, camps, holiday homes, base camps and household emergency preparedness. Pour water in at the top and gravity does the rest: ceramic with a 0.2 µm pore size retains bacteria, protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, algae and suspended solids. Gravity instead of muscle – how it differs from a pump filter

A pump filter delivers water at the rate somebody pumps. For two people on tour that is ideal; for ten people in camp it becomes work. The drip filter inverts the principle: you fill the upper container, walk away, and later draw finished water from the tap. At up to 4 litres per hour the 10-litre container runs through in roughly two and a half hours – in the background, while you cook, work or sleep. What the filter retains – and what it does not

The 0.2 µm ceramic reliably removes bacteria such as E. coli, cholera and salmonella pathogens, protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, plus algae, sediment, rust particles and turbidity. That covers precisely the organisms that most commonly cause diarrhoeal illness in Europe, while travelling and in emergencies. Viruses, dissolved chemicals and heavy metals are not retained – those require other methods. For longer periods out of use, unscrew the elements and store them dry. The operating range is 5 to 35 °C.
