The right kids sleeping bag depends primarily on body height – not on age. As a rough guide:
For kindergarten kids from age 4, an interior length of 130–150 cm fits. Important: don’t go too big or too much dead space gets heated by body warmth. The most important question is length: the bag should be about 20 cm longer than the child. Bags that are too big heat up unnecessary dead space, bags that are too small cool out at the foot end. For cold nights, the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen is the first choice – the wool-down filling delivers high insulation even at low temperatures. Important for kids in winter: extra insulation from below (high R-value sleeping pad), use the hood, and pay attention to the comfort temperature – kids cool out faster than adults, so go a bit warmer.

Wash according to the filling: wool at 30 °C on the wool cycle with wool detergent or by hand – don’t spin, dry flat. Down with special detergent on a gentle cycle at 30 °C, tumble dry gently with tennis balls. Synthetic is easiest: 30 °C, air dry. Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
Yes, definitely. Under body weight the bag’s filling is compressed and barely insulates – cold comes from the ground. A pad with adequate R-value prevents this loss. For kids: pick a slightly higher R-value, since they cool down faster than adults. Rule of thumb: R-value 3 or more for three-season use.
There are family or double sleeping bags (two adult bags zipped together), but for small kids individual children’s bags are usually the better solution. They fit better, insulate more efficiently and the child can get in and out independently. For siblings, two separate kids sleeping bags are the better choice.
