A kids sleeping bag is not just a smaller version of an adult bag. Children have different needs: their thermoregulation is more sensitive, they grow fast, they sweat differently, and they want to move freely inside the bag. At Swiss-Sale.ch you will find sleeping bags for kids from brands that specialise in exactly these requirements: Grüezi Bag with grow-along wool and down models, and Snugpak with robust, tactically inspired children’s models.
Whether for the first camping weekend, scout camp, family trekking trip or a sleepover at a friend’s – the right sleeping bag accompanies kids reliably for years. Grow-along models in particular are an investment that pays off over many seasons.
Four models have proven especially popular with our family customers:
Our range includes several grow-along models from Grüezi Bag: the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen combines a wool-and-down filling and grows from school size to teen size. The Wool Kids World Traveller is the pure wool variant for allergy-prone users and lovers of natural materials. The Kids Grow Colorful offers the grow-along function with easy-care microfiber filling at a more affordable price – a very popular entry into the world of grow-along sleeping bags. All three grow-along models cost a bit more upfront than a standard kids sleeping bag – but pay off from the second year on.
The right kids sleeping bag depends primarily on body height – not on age. As a rough guide:
For kindergarten kids from age 4, an interior length of 130–150 cm fits. Important: don’t go too big or too much dead space gets heated by body warmth. Grow-along models like the Grüezi Bag Wool Kids World Traveller or the more affordable Grüezi Bag Kids Grow Colorful (fits from 100 cm body height) can be used for several years – a smart investment, since kids grow especially fast at this age.
At school age, a length of about 150–160 cm works. For the first scout or class camp we recommend models with good freedom of movement and an easy-to-handle zip. The Snugpak Sleeper Kids is a proven classic here.
At about 10 years many kids are already quite tall – an interior length of 170–180 cm is common. If you want a bag that lasts into the teen years, the grow-along Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen is the right pick.
From about 12 years many kids reach adult size. Depending on growth stage you can choose a teen model or move directly to an adult sleeping bag. Important: the bag should be about 20 cm longer than body height. More info and adult models in the main category sleeping bags.
For kids sleeping bags, natural materials in particular have proven themselves:
A complete overview of materials and bag types is in the main category sleeping bags.
The most important question is length: the bag should be about 20 cm longer than the child. Bags that are too big heat up unnecessary dead space, bags that are too small cool out at the foot end. For growing children, a grow-along model like the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen, the Wool Kids World Traveller or the more affordable Kids Grow Colorful pays off. For scouts and camping, the robust Snugpak Sleeper Kids is a proven choice.
A grow-along sleeping bag has an adjustable foot box – for small children the foot end is rolled and fixed with snaps or zip, then released as the child grows. The interior length adapts to the growing body. A single grow-along bag replaces 2–3 sizes over 4–6 years – cheaper and far more sustainable.
For kindergarten kids from age 4 an interior length of about 130–150 cm fits. We recommend a grow-along model: the Grüezi Bag Wool Kids World Traveller with pure new wool regulates the climate especially well, the Grüezi Bag Kids Grow Colorful is the more affordable microfiber alternative, also grow-along from 100 cm body height. Both fit for several years. Important for this age group: no neck drawstring and a zip with anti-snag protection.
At age 10 many kids reach 140–150 cm in height, and an interior length of 170–180 cm fits. The grow-along Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen is optimal here: covers the school to teen years and combines wool and down for excellent warmth at moderate weight.
Yes – the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen is explicitly designed for the teen years and reaches adult size in most cases. If your child is already fully grown (from about 12–14 years), pick an adult bag directly – see the main category sleeping bags.
For cold nights, the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen is the first choice – the wool-down filling delivers high insulation even at low temperatures. Important for kids in winter: extra insulation from below (high R-value sleeping pad), use the hood, and pay attention to the comfort temperature – kids cool out faster than adults, so go a bit warmer.
For scout camps, class camps and youth groups, ruggedness and easy handling matter most. The Snugpak Sleeper Kids is a proven classic here: mummy cut with hood, synthetic filling (forgiving in damp conditions), compact pack size and robust build. A classic camp bag that takes some abuse.
Wool is especially recommendable for kids. It regulates temperature and moisture excellently, has antibacterial and odour-neutralising properties (even after several nights without washing), is skin-friendly and suited to allergy-prone users. The Grüezi Bag Wool Kids World Traveller uses pure new wool as filling – a great fit for sensitive children’s skin.
Wash according to the filling: wool at 30 °C on the wool cycle with wool detergent or by hand – don’t spin, dry flat. Down with special detergent on a gentle cycle at 30 °C, tumble dry gently with tennis balls. Synthetic is easiest: 30 °C, air dry. Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
Yes, definitely. Under body weight the bag’s filling is compressed and barely insulates – cold comes from the ground. A pad with adequate R-value prevents this loss. For kids: pick a slightly higher R-value, since they cool down faster than adults. Rule of thumb: R-value 3 or more for three-season use.
There are family or double sleeping bags (two adult bags zipped together), but for small kids individual children’s bags are usually the better solution. They fit better, insulate more efficiently and the child can get in and out independently. For siblings, two separate kids sleeping bags are the better choice.
With good care and storage, 4–6 years, sometimes longer. The Grüezi Bag Wool Kids World Traveller and the Kids Grow Colorful often accompany a child from kindergarten into school age (100–155 cm body height), the Grüezi Bag DownWool Kids Teen covers school to teen years. A grow-along bag thus replaces 2–3 standard sizes – an investment that pays off financially and ecologically.
