640×512 Thermal with PIPS 3.0

The vanadium oxide 640×512 sensor with 12 μm pixel pitch and F/1.0 optics (35 mm) achieves a thermal sensitivity of 15 mK – among the best values available for uncooled detectors. The proprietary PIPS 3.0 system with AI-assisted image calibration guarantees consistent, artefact-free image quality.

4K UHD day camera with EIS – for day, dusk and night

The integrated 4K UHD camera (3’840×2’160, 55 mm, F/2.0) provides 5.5× magnification during the day (up to 44× with digital zoom), with a field of view of 8.0°×4.5°. Electronic image stabilisation (EIS) compensates for shake and movement for steady observation. The built-in anti-fog function improves the image in haze and fog. Five image modes (Colour, Black & White, Green, Yellow, Auto) combined with the 940 nm IR illuminator (up to 350 m) enable effective night observation without visible light emission.

IP67, GPS, Wi-Fi & swappable battery – for any deployment

Rated IP67, the Draco D635N-4K is fully dust-tight and withstands temporary submersion to 1 m depth. The operating temperature range from −30 °C to +55 °C covers any climate zone. GPS and compass provide position data directly in the device. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) enables stable video streaming and remote control via the Pixfra Outdoor app. The swappable 18650 battery delivers at least 8 hours of runtime (Wi-Fi off, 25 °C) and can be exchanged in the field. With 64 GB of internal storage, sufficient capacity is available for hours of 4K video recording.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions – Pixfra Draco D635N-4K

What are the four functions of the Draco D635N-4K – and what is each one used for?

The Draco D635N-4K integrates four systems in a single binocular: (1) Thermal camera (640×512, 35 mm, 15 mK): detects body heat from humans and animals up to 1,800 m regardless of light, darkness, fog or camouflage. (2) 4K UHD day camera (3,840×2,160, 55 mm): delivers razor-sharp colour images in daylight and at dusk; combined with the IR illuminator, effective at night too. (3) Laser rangefinder (up to 1,000 m, ±1 m, Class 1): measures precise target distance at the press of a button, eye-safe and unrestricted for civilian use. (4) 940 nm IR illuminator (350 m): floods the scene with near-invisible infrared light so the 4K camera can deliver sharp images in total darkness.

What does “multispectral” mean – and how do I switch between sensors?

Multispectral means the device can capture light from different wavelength bands of the electromagnetic spectrum: thermal radiation (8–14 μm, thermal sensor), visible light (day camera) and near infrared (940 nm, IR illuminator + day camera). The Draco D635N-4K offers three image modes: Thermal (thermal sensor only), Day camera (4K camera only) and Picture-in-picture (PIP) (both sensors simultaneously, with one image shown as an inset within the other). Switching is done via the control buttons on the unit. PIP mode is particularly useful when you need the thermal signature (for detection) and the colour image (for identification) at the same time.

Why does the thermal camera use a 35 mm lens and the day camera a 55 mm lens in the same body?

Different focal lengths are physically necessary to achieve comparable effective fields of view on both cameras, because the thermal sensor chip (640×512, 12 μm) and the 4K camera chip have different physical sizes. At 35 mm, the thermal camera achieves 4.3× magnification; at 55 mm, the 4K camera achieves 5.5×. Both cameras thus show a similar field of view and are well matched for use in PIP mode.

Why 940 nm and not 850 nm for the IR illuminator?

IR illuminators are available in two common wavelengths: 850 nm and 940 nm. The difference is visibility: 850 nm produces a faint reddish glow at the front element in darkness that is visible to humans and animals. 940 nm lies outside the visible spectrum for human eyes and emits virtually no visible light. The “N” in the model name D635N-4K refers to the 940 nm illuminator. For hunting and wildlife observation this means: no startling of game and no light cone that could alert other observers.

How does the laser rangefinder work – and is it eye-safe?

The built-in laser rangefinder is a Class 1 laser – the safest laser classification, meaning it poses no eye hazard under normal use. Measurement is triggered by a button press: the laser is aimed at the target, emits a brief pulse and calculates the distance from the return signal travel time. The result is shown on the display. Measurement accuracy is ±1 m across a measurement range of up to 1,000 m.

What does IP67 mean for a binocular – and how rugged is the Draco in the field?

IP67 under IEC 60529: “6” = fully dust-tight (no dust can enter), “7” = protected against temporary submersion to 1 m depth for 30 minutes. For a binocular in field use this means: rain, mist, splashes, mud and accidental immersion in water are not a problem. The operating temperature range of −30 °C to +55 °C covers virtually all global deployment conditions. The Draco D635N-4K is explicitly designed for rugged field use under extreme conditions.

How long does the battery last – and what can I do with Wi-Fi and GPS?

The swappable 18650 Li-ion battery delivers at least 8 hours with Wi-Fi off at 25 °C. Active Wi-Fi streaming or cold temperatures will reduce runtime; a spare battery is recommended for extended operations. Via dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), the live feed can be streamed to a smartphone or tablet; the Pixfra Outdoor app also enables remote control and recording management. The integrated GPS logs position for geotagged captures and observation logs. The digital compass shows viewing direction and complements GPS positioning.
