Tarp Types: Diamond and Rectangular

Diamond tarps like the Nordisk Diamond PU/SI are excellent as solo shelters. The diamond shape provides effective rain protection at low weight and can be pitched with a single pole. Rectangular tarps like the Nordisk Voss series offer more coverage and can be pitched in many configurations – as an A-frame, lean-to or flat roof.

Size Guide

The right tarp size depends on the number of people and intended use. For solo use, a Nordisk Voss 5 or Diamond tarp is sufficient. For two people, we recommend the Voss 7 or 9. Larger groups should choose the Voss 14 or Voss 20 – the latter provides 20 m² of protected area.

Materials: PU vs. SI

PU-coated tarps are more robust, heavier and more affordable. They suit stationary camping where weight is secondary. Silnylon tarps (SI) weigh significantly less, pack smaller and are ideal for weight-conscious trekking – but cost accordingly more.

Setup Tips

A tarp can be pitched using trekking poles, Nordisk DAC poles or between trees. Always use all guy-out points for maximum stability. In wind: pitch low and face the open side away from the wind. Keep the tarp taut to prevent water pooling.
