The Katadyn Pocket is a lifetime filter: its silver-impregnated ceramic element filters up to 50,000 litres of drinking water before replacement. With a flow rate of 1 litre per minute, it is ideal for long-term travel, expeditions and professional emergency preparedness. The Tactical version in olive is aimed at military and government users.
The BeFree is Katadyn’s lightest filter: from 59 g (0.6 L) or 63 g (1.0 L). The EZ-Clean hollow fibre membrane can be cleaned by simply shaking. Fill the soft flask at a stream, squeeze and drink – perfect for trail running, fastpacking and ultralight trekking.
The Vario offers two performance levels: fast mode with glass fibre or thorough mode with additional ceramic element. The Hiker Pro combines glass fibre with activated carbon for improved taste. Both are robust pump filters for multi-day tours and camping.
The Combi combines ceramic and activated carbon filtration for maximum water quality – chemical contaminants and taste are also reduced. The Expedition is Katadyn’s large-scale filter for groups and base camps: it delivers up to 4 litres per minute for teams of up to 100 people.

The ceramic element of the Katadyn Pocket filters up to 50,000 litres of drinking water. At an average usage of 5 litres per day, the element lasts over 27 years. This makes the Pocket a true lifetime filter.
Ceramic filters (Pocket, Combi) are extremely durable and mechanically robust – the element can be cleaned and reused. Hollow fibre filters (BeFree) are significantly lighter and offer higher flow rates but need to be replaced sooner (after approximately 1,000 litres).
The Katadyn BeFree is the top choice for trail running and fastpacking: at just 59 g (0.6 L), it is ultralight, and filling and drinking works without pumping – simply squeeze. The EZ-Clean membrane can be cleaned on the go by shaking.
Katadyn water filters reliably remove bacteria and protozoa (Giardia, Cryptosporidium) thanks to their 0.2 micron pore size. However, viruses are smaller and are not fully captured by mechanical filters. For virus elimination, we recommend combining with Micropur Forte.
Ceramic elements (Pocket, Combi) are cleaned with the included pad when the flow rate decreases. Hollow fibre elements (BeFree) are cleaned by shaking vigorously in clean water. Let the filter dry completely after each trip before storage.
